Reversing Recession through Stainless Steel Jewelry Retailing
Saturday, January 21st, 2012
Contrary to popular belief, multi-billion dollar companies are not the only life-source of an economy. The actual life support of it are the small and medium scale retailing businesses that we, as ordinary consumers, have contact with in a daily basis. And due to this fact, an economic structure is deeply affected by the influence of small and medium scale businesses because they have the capacity to alter trends on how consumers spend their money.
Tapping the potential of this sector of the economy can be achieved by forming a small retailing business of your own. And one of the most stable products available out there for those who want to be entrepreneurs is stainless steel jewelry.
We live in an image-conscious age. People want to look good all the time as many associate a fine appearance with success. Accessories like stainless steel jewelry tend to stay in the market for long periods of time due to their effect in the way people think about themselves. Things, like stainless steel jewelry, that make them feel good about themselves are a product that every retailing entrepreneur should utilize for its advantages.
Also, people today are obsessed with conveying who they are to the world around them. By looking at the booming popularity of profiling sites on the Web, we can see that communication is very important for the contemporary person. Jewelry and fashion also serve the same purpose of profiling websites by projecting identity and individualism. Businesses and products that affect the personality of their consumers in a deep level are inclined to succeed.
Starting a stainless steel jewelry retailing business is very easy. One can start small with friends and family as customers. Stainless steel jewelry is relatively less expensive compared to silver or gold so, there is no need to make huge investments at the beginning if you fear that the venture will not work out. A few hundred dollars as starting capital to buy an initial inventory and a catalog from a reliable manufacturer is all one need to start a retailing business.
Also, as stainless steel jewelry is still a young market, take advantage of this fact and be one of the first to exploit the potential of this great product. The techniques on how stainless steel jewelry is crafted give it a wide variety of available styles and designs compared to silver and gold. There are manufacturers that release hundreds of new styles every month, ensuring that your customers will not get bored with your stainless steel jewelry retailing business.
Through thick and thin, it is good to have financial stability in our lives. This is not easy to accomplish and it usually needs more than a day to achieve. But as we all know, any problem in this world can be accomplished with just a little ingenuity and a lot of dedication. Start reversing recession by forming your own stainless steel jewelry retailing business.

Crowd Sourcing Makes getting Press Insanely Easy, If You Know Where to Look
Saturday, January 21st, 2012
When I think of small businesses, I think of businesses that rely on their community as much as their community relies on them. In this economy, I think that bond is even stronger – but we all know that new customers are the key to growth.
In his book, The Long Tail, Chris Anderson explains the value in harnessing the web for free distribution of content. The long tail philosophy refers to a normal distribution of goods, where most merchants are selling those that are in highest demand; the aggregate value of goods not being sold is actually larger than that of the limited number of high-demand goods.
Here’s a [very] quick example: In a music store, each album takes up a certain amount of shelf space. In order to pay for that space, they must sell say – a minimum of ten copies of that album per year. In order to make sure 10 albums get sold, they have to only sell albums that will sell that many -AKA: the short head. By selling a virtually unlimited number of albums online, including the ones that only get sold say, once every five years, online retailers are utilizing the long tail. The five million albums that sell once per year generate more revenue than the five thousand albums that sell 100 albums per year. Do the math.
Now, as a small business, you’re not going to start harnessing the long tail for your business – leave this task for the Amazons and Gemvaras of the world (always happy to plug a Babson business). But you can, of course, use businesses that do, in order to reap the same rewards. In this post, I thought I’d introduce you to HARO.
HARO, or Help-A-Reporter-Out, uses crowd sourcing to connect reporters looking to fill a story with businesses looking to widen their reach. Their business relies on reporters and businesses in a virtual ‘long tail’ of different categories of press. If you’ve been reading the Roominate Blog, you know how important it is to distribute ‘remarkable’ content. Well why not use the best distribution mechanism of them all: the media.
It’s simple to use: You sign up as a business, check off which types of reporters you want to hear from, and boom – you’ll receive three emails everyday with reporters asking for stories. Keep an eye out for a query on something that fits your business (don’t forget to check out which publication they’re writing for) and reply to the reporter directly. It’s up to them whether they want to respond to your pitch, so keep your pitches legitimate and you’ll likely see results.
A nice piece of press can do wonders for your business – increase awareness, drive traffic to your site, increase your Google PageRank, and give you something to proudly display in your waiting room – if you have one. There are plenty of tools out there to help SMBs, the trick is finding them, and learning how they can add value to your business.

Feeling Overwhelmed
Wednesday, January 18th, 2012
I wished I had a nickel ever time I felt overwhelmed and got bogged down with things that stop me from moving forward in life. I started a travel home-based business several months ago. I was looking for a part time business that I could supplement with my current full-time income and do when I’m ready to retire.
I wanted to find an online business that would work for me 24-7 but I only needed to put in part time hours. I had no computer skills but my gut was telling me this is where the future for business was going to be. I needed to learn how to position myself on the internet and decided to turn my passion for travel into an online business.
I met so many people, including myself that starve for information and spend all their time studding, buy training, attend webinars and have all the latest information and terminology. I’ll ask the key questions. So how much money are you making? All I get back from them is weird facial expressions. After all, that is the purpose for starting a home based business.
Here are some principals’ steps I use to keep my focus on the task at hand.
1. I realized that starting any legitimate business is not get rich quick. That it ‘s going to take time and effort.
2. You have to find a passion and system that you can believe in since you will be working hard and putting in the hours. With out the passion, you will not have the motivation to carry on.
3. You need to set long term and short term goals and look at them everyday when you wake up in the morning.
In my case, I had no computer skills or any experience in online marketing. I new I had to spend a certain amount of time each week learning these skills. However, not all my time. I knew the rest of my week I had to set action goals that would produce an income for me.
Here is my example. I needed to learn how to build a website and I spent part of the day going through step by step video instruction. Than I would take this information and put it to work by building my own web pages. I learned how to create traffic to my website and put the information to work. No traffic = No money. So once you gather your information, you must take an action step in reaching your goal.
If you had no skills, like me and was told you, you needed to build a 200 page website with 400 backend links to it before you start making money online would you do it? You would be so overwhelmed that you would get nothing accomplished.
But could you do it, if I said could you take 10 hrs of video step by step instruction a week for four weeks. After completion, you will have learned how to build a website. Could you build 4 web pages a week when it takes an average of 1 1/2 hours to build a page? This now becomes very do able.
Every time I get off track by all those e-mails, I have to remind myself if this action helps me accomplish my goal. Know when to say “No.”
Good luck with reaching you goals.

My 3 Personal Success Strategies That Never Fail
Tuesday, January 17th, 2012
When I arrived into the second half of my life, I realized that the years were drifting by and I began to wonder why my life hadn’t completely turned out the way I had wished. Certainly I had racked up many successes but there were also still unfulfilled dreams, places I wanted to go, books to write and things to learn. Self- doubt slowly crept in and I wondered whether I would ever manifest all of my ambitions.
That’s how it once seemed to me. Maybe you are like me, and you too have also wondered whether you missed your chance and now it’s too late.
Now I can see all this with much more clarity. That feeling of “I have my whole life to do whatever” has changed, and in its place is substituted with a daily gratefulness for what I have and a knowing that I will live my life fully to the very end, whenever that is.
I am blessed to have already have had a multitude of rich life experiences, and one of those gems is looking at the strategies that have supported my many successes.
I’ll share with you my top three strategies that I have used to achieve anything I have wanted in my life.
Of course knowing the strategies is only one part. Following through on them is the other piece.
1. Know what you want, vision it, picture it, see it, feel it, imagine it and know it inside and out.
2. Be willing to change your attitude and make a conscious choice to meet the day with uplifting attitude and focus. It’s amazing how in one minute my energy will change and my state of mind will re-align for a productive day.
3. Make a plan and talk about it with supportive friends. When you tell people it makes it much more real.
These are my top 3 personal success strategies that never fail. I swear by them and know they work as I’ve been consciously using them for over 20 years. Simple but effective.

What’s Your Perspective About Failure?
Tuesday, January 17th, 2012
One of the sharpest contrasts of paradigms between the super successful and the near do wells or outright failures is their perspective about failing.
The contrast is so alarming, yet many don’t know.
In my little sojourn and study, I have discovered quite amazingly that the rich and the poor, the great and the average, the skilled and he amateur, have different philosophies about failing. If your philosophy can change, then you have indeed begun your journey into the school of success. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.
You are not more than your way of thinking. Read these words, and let them transform your thinking, changing the way you see failing and rejection has the capacity to transform your life in 3 months.
Failing is one of the best things that can happen to a human being!
Rejection is the most powerful motivation tool on earth! Getting a “No!” from your prospects or friends is the best self development training in the world! Failing is golden!
The act of falling short, or missing expectations, of not meeting up with the desired results or getting woeful results is precious. You need to motivate yourself to fail, get yourself the opportunity of being rejected, go into places you’ll hear no’s more often, for success is elusive to those who have no history of failing! Failure must never be a place that defines you, but you must be conversant with failing.
Like Thomas Watson one time MD of IBM said, “I have discovered, that in order to double my success rate, I simply double my failure rate!”. You are not ready to succeed, until you are prepared to fail.
Listen to me; it’s not your potential that counts. It’s not how skilled you are that counts, it’s not even who you know. The greatest change that can happen to you will only happen, when your paradigm shifts about failing.
Once that shifts, all the other elements begin to fall into place. In the soccer match of failing versus succeeding, the person that wins is not the person with the most goals; one goal from succeeding is enough to wipe away all the memories of failing.
It is not who scores most that wins, it’s who scores last! Do you really want to be success? Do you really want to be great? Do you want to be wealthy and loved? Then you must ready to fail, but not be characterized a failure, you must be ready to fall, and get up again and again and again. You must be ready to try, and in case you don’t succeed, try again.
It’s strange how we quote many great men and yet refuse to subscribe to their principles. It’s amazing how we listen to their stories with inspired awe, and yet refuse to leave our comfort zones.
What these people did, you can do as well, you only need to change your perception of failing. You need to learn to fail and fail forward. Don’t be deceived by reading peoples current lives, and thinking they were successful from the word “Go”. They weren’t, it’s just interesting that life covers the tracks left behind by successful men and women and makes it difficult to follow. The entire struggle and down times is till you succeed. So keep at it!
Do you want me to give you an independent practical advice on what you can do? Then you will want to check my site out and I will like to answer your questions personally. Send them to me.

The Power of Web 2.0
Sunday, January 15th, 2012
Web 2.0 has been around for a few years now, and while it’s not easily defined, many people are taking advantage of its benefits with great success. Web 2.0 is understood as a second generation of internet participation, which is a very broad term, but a very powerful one as well.
As the numbers of internet businesses grow each day, harnessing the power of Web 2.0 has become essential to their success. The internet has become much more than a tool for research; it is a place where people gather to communicate, do business, shop and live their lives.
Back in the days before the internet, the main way for businesses to succeed was to generate positive word of mouth throughout the community, and if you look at things this way then times aren’t so different. Web 2.0 has changed the internet from a tool to an international community.
The way for online businesses to succeed now is to interact with their consumers through a number of different applications. By simply writing a weekly blog and relating to your clientele you can attract a whole new set of customers. Now take this a step further and register your blog on a site like Technorati where users can mark it as a ‘fave’ and you can generate fans that follow it.
Instead of using only text on your site, use videos and audio to make your message more personal. Then upload these to social media directories like YouTube and make available as podcasts so people can listen to them on their iPods.
Use social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace to form groups of people and advertise your product or service there. These will also enable you to send out mass messages to all your friends to inform them of new items, changes or events.
Allow people to leave comments on your site or blog so that you can personally interact with them and get the feedback you need to improve your business.
There are countless ways to use the power of Web 2.0 to your business’ advantage. These programs and applications will not only build your clientele, but they are fun and easy to use. The key is user participation so get out there and socialize with your community.

7 Steps to Creating Great Business Partnerships – Part 1
Sunday, January 15th, 2012
Do you have a story of a bad partnership?
Many of us have heard horror stories of partnership disasters. Some of us have even experienced a painful breakup of a business partnership. The cost, both financial and emotional, has left many entrepreneurs vowing never again!
It has become increasingly difficult to achieve great success in today’s complex business environment by forging ahead on your own. Establishing some form of collaboration, whether it is a loose alliance, formal affiliation or legal partnership, adds tremendous value to the small business owner looking to create quantum leaps in company performance.
The challenge is hooking up with the right partner first, and then tackle the financial, legal and working details of the partnership. Most of us, however, tend not to look beyond the surface when selecting a partner. How many times have you heard “Oh, we’ll be great partners? She has the sales and marketing experience and I have the financial background. We complement each other and will make a great team.” While knowing your potential partner’s skills and functional expertise is important, it’s only the beginning of the selection process. Creating great partnerships requires doing your homework upfront and communicating with deep honesty and directness.
The following are two of the seven steps that can enhance your chances for success.
1. Do your due diligence. It’s not enough to say, “We get along well”. Do you share core values, vision and expectations for the company or project? Most fatal conflict will arise as a result of these unexplored areas. Unfortunately, this is the step many people either ignore or gloss over because they are uncomfortable asking these questions, take answers at face value without in-depth probing, or are just too vested in the outcome of selecting a particular person as a partner.
2. Establish roles and responsibilities. Fortunately, we usually team up with someone who has complementary skills. Understanding our differences as strengths and recognizing weaknesses in ourselves and potential partner is a critical early step. Defining roles and responsibilities based on a candid assessment of these areas, allow partners to avoid ego issues, stepping on each other toes, duplicating efforts and giving mixed signals to the organization. This does not mean inflexible job descriptions. Boundaries can and should remain somewhat loose so the organization be fast and flexible.
What are some things you’ve done to select the right business partner?
